The New Rules of Marketing and PR

I just finished reading “The New Rules of Marketing and PR” by David Meerman Scott and I thought it was fantastic.  It is a book that all people interested in marketing and PR can enjoy, whether you’re just starting to learn about the subject or you’ve been doing it for years.

The first part of the book focuses on what the new rules of marketing and PR are and how companies can use them properly while the second part tells how to start using these new rules for your own company through instructions and examples. Though I’m very familiar with marketing and PR both through my studies at GVSU and my internships, I read the entire book start to finish and found it all very interesting and enlightening.

I started working at a restaurant as a host/marketing assistant and that was why I initially checked the book out from the library.  I wanted to find out how I could help the restaurant use the new rules, including social media, which is something I feel that a lot of companies use incorrectly.  I found the book to offer great advice of how to get a business’s social media started and how to make it successful.  Though the book mostly focuses on blogs, I found that the basic ideas could be applied to almost anything.

I really enjoyed reading this book and learning from it. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about new marketing and PR and how to make it work for a company. It is also a great way to keep up on your marketing and PR skills while in between jobs. I know I will be taking what I have learned from this book and applying it to my next job.

  1. Jorri – it is a good read! It does go against some of the stuff we learned in school…but in a good way. It really has some good ideas.
